On the 6th May 2015 I embarked on my Content Marketing journey. A couple of weeks ago, I thought I’d check to see what difference it had made financially to my business. If I told you that comparing April 2015 to April 2016, we had increased our sales by 26% purely based on direct sales from our content would you be interested? In monetary terms that’s an extra £37,500.00 above target for one month. Although not surprised, as I know this shit works, it was very satisfying to see the actual figures. This is people, my customers, who are searching for answers, reading or watching my content and buying as a result.
It’s no secret that sheds are used for more than storing a dilapidated lawn mower, a three-pronged rake and two bent spades nowadays. Whilst watching “Shed of the Year” finale, it seems almost fitting to tell you about one of my favourite sheds I’ve done this year. Marilyn came to me last year with a somewhat restricted space.
As a small Scottish business we recognise the importance of a ‘Living Wage’. We invest in our employees and believe the benefits far outweigh the costs.
Back in the day, when Gillies and Mackay first started everyone had to take turns working on a Saturday; Bench Joiners, Onsite Assemblers and Directors all took their turn at selling sheds on a Saturday.
As you may know, back in July, Gillies and Mackay became accredited Living Wage employers. Although proud of our status, it doesn’t take much to commit- pay your employees an honest wage, simple as that.
A couple of weeks ago, we attended the first-ever Living Wage Expo which was held in Edinburgh. Us and 114 other firms attended to represent our businesses who all wished to promote the benefits of being part of the living wage movement.
If you’re starting your own venture, changing direction in an existing company or trying to grow your business through new and different avenues, I would 100% recommend an Intern. This year, for the first time, I took on my own Intern as a means of support for my content marketing journey.
