You’re ready. Ready to place an order. Ready to start living your best #ShedLife.
But wait a minute! What’s all this about needing to paint a second coat onto your G&M building a few weeks after delivery?
You’ll probably not want to do that as it sounds like a lot of hassle. You’re more likely to want someone to do it for you, hey? A professional.
But can’t G&M just do it all for you?
We DON’T actually paint your shed for you. However, we DO put a base coat on in the workshop in whatever Sadolin colour from our range you decide on. But you WILL need to put another coat on it a few weeks after the building has been delivered and assembled.
And if you’re wanting it to look really, really ridiculously good looking and live up to its full Sheddie potential, then you are going to want to hire a professional to prep and paint it for you.
So, let’s get into who we recommend to decorate your G&M building.

- Why Do You Have To Paint Your Shed
Can you paint your G&M shed yourself?
Hire someone? What happened to good old-fashioned hard work? Can you not just do it yourself?
Aye! You can.
G&M buildings are made to last. But in order to last they need to be treated.
We put on a base coat of Sadolin, which helps to protect the wood. But you’ll need to paint on another coat a few weeks after delivery and installation. Then it will need to be done every 5-7 years after that, to keep the building in great condition.
If you don’t do this, your building won’t be guaranteed.
So if you’re just trying to get the guarantee and aren’t too bothered about how it looks then yeah, you can paint it yourself no bother.
But, you’re spending a lot of money on it, so it goes without saying that you care about how it looks, right?
You’ve got the best shed builder in the whole world to build your building. So it seems a bit of a shame to slap on some paint and be done with it.
No, you want some care to be taken.
You want the building to be prepped and primed and painted with LOVE.
And that’s where the decorators come in.
Who do Gillies and MacKay recommend for decorating your G&M building?
If you are wanting a top-quality, professional finish on your G&M building then you’ll want to employ the talents of a skilled decorator to ensure that your building is not only protected but looks AH-ma-zing.
We don’t do this. We’re not painters. But we do partner with the experts that are RG Painters and Decorators.
They’ll not only paint the building to protect it. But they’ll prep and prime the timber for the second coat of paint (sometimes they also recommend a third coat, for a really neat finish), including filling the nail holes and sanding them down for a smooth finish.
They carry out painting and decorating works across Scotland and England. So wherever your G&M building is, they should be able to help you get it painted and looking as amazing as possible post-delivery.
How much does it cost for RG Painters & Decorators to paint my G&M building?
How much is it going to cost you to get RG Painters and Decorators to paint your G&M?
Well, that depends on the size of the building, but it is generally somewhere between £300 – £1000.
If you choose to do it yourself, it will cost you around £50 for a tin of paint. But it will also cost you time and you’ll need to accept that the standard won’t be as high as it would be if a professional was doing it.
How long will it take to paint your G&M?
If you want to know how long it will take to paint your G&M, that will depend on the level of finish that you want on your building. But it will generally take place over the course of three days for the prep work and painting.
What is the process for organising RG Painters to decorate my G&M building?
Once you’ve confirmed your G&M order and paid your deposit, your delivery date will be confirmed. At this point, you can contact RG Painters and Decorators and let them know when your building will be scheduled.
They can then organise a date to come along and decorate the building a few weeks after assembly.
Where do I get the paint for my G&M building?
RG Painters and Decorators will supply the paint that you need for your G&M building, so there is no need to worry about getting it yourself
They use the same merchants that we do. And we work with them loads so they know that they need to use Sadolin.
Just let them know what colour the base coat is and they’ll get the same to match (NB: your paint colour is on your invoice and you can see them all here if you need to jog your memory).
