What is Small Business Saturday? This cracking event is a national campaign to support small, local businesses, and we’re delighted to share that this year, Gillies & Mackay Ltd. has been chosen as one of the SmallBiz100.
What is the SmallBiz100?
As part of the Small Business Saturday campaign, SmallBiz100 chooses 100 exciting British businesses. Then, they showcase these in the lead-up to the main event on December 7th.
A different business is chosen for each of the 100 days preceding Small Business Saturday, and this year Gillies & Mackay will be highlighted on November 5th. Expect fireworks! You know…because it’s Bonfire Night…ach, never mind.
The campaign promotes each of the 100 businesses on social media, runs events and workshops targeting small business owners and customers, and there’s even a Tour!
This year the SmallBiz100 contains everything from wellness coaches to independent bookshops to PR firms to inclusive fashion designers to gift shops to candle makers to blues guitarists to cosmetics to dog groomers! It’s wonderful to see so many sustainable, ethical businesses run by hard-working entrepreneurs. It’s also an absolute privilege to be chosen alongside them.
What is Small Business Saturday?
Well, it turns out we’re not the only ones who think small businesses are pretty rad. Small Business Saturday was started in the US by American Express back in 2010. It’s been running in the UK since 2012, and American Express are still the main supporters of the event.
Small Business Saturday encourages everyone to support small businesses. You can do this by shopping local, buying online, or promoting business owners in your community. It happens on the first weekend in December, although of course, you can support a small business any time of year!
Whether you’re getting your Christmas shopping started, or treating yourself because we both know you deserve it, supporting a small business helps ensure the continued existence of small businesses.
We’re all delighted to be recognised as one of the UK’s most exciting small businesses. We’re also loving finding out about all the other businesses in the calendar.
