Your shed’s leaking and it’s causing no end of problems… but what can the cause be and is it fixable?  There are three main reasons as to why your shed might be leaking and here’s a short video explaining what they are and how to combat them: VIDEO CHATTER Here are the three reasons why your shed might be leaking. 1. Needs a coat of paint The first one is you haven’t painted it. If you haven’t treated your shed when you’re supposed to, then it’s more than probable that there’s moisture coming straight through the weatherboard. 2. Nowhere for the water to go The second reason may have something to do with the surroundings of the building.  The water …

So you’ve got a Gillies Mackay shed and you’ve had it for maybe eight or nine years now. It still looks brand new of course. That’s what everybody always says. But you’re just a little bit concerned about the roof, because when you ordered the building, you were told that it comes with a 10 year guarantee for the felt. So it’s getting close to the 10 years. So you’re thinking, “Should I be thinking about re-roofing it?” The best thing to do is just inspect the roof. See what the condition is like. First thing’s first. If it’s not letting the water in, then it’s probably doing okay. Secondly, if you’ve not got any trees or bushes overgrowing it, …

Best type of roofing for a Pent Shed

Some time ago, when the rain wouldn’t stop and Scotland was completely drenched, Gillies and Mackay were faced with leaking pent roofs. We’d been putting the conversation off because our decision would involve a significant price increase. Ultimately, it came down to either a leaking Shed, which is no use to anyone, or a Shed that’s more expensive but doesn’t leak! Although the normal felt works well on Apex pitches, the gradient of Pent isn’t enough to allow the water to run off as readily. What we found was the water would seep back up under the felt and then through the sarking.

“You get what you pay for!” No truer a word said… and that’s why Gillies and Mackay’s sheds ARE expensive. A cheap shed might only last you a few years, whereas an expensive one should last you generations (if looked after properly). Take a look at why investing in an expensive shed far outweighs buying a cheaper one. You’ll see it’s money well spent. VIDEO CHATTER If you’re buying a shed from Gillies and Mackay, then it’s going to be expensive. If you’re buying a shed from other, reputable, independent shed makers like maybe Patterson’s or Forrest Log Cabins and Summer Houses, it’s also going to be pretty expensive. The reason for that is because you get what you pay …

NattyShedGirl Timber Building FAQs Leave a Comment

Would like to clean the outside of your playhouse building? Maybe it’s got ground dirt or dust on it or maybe it’s covered in bird shite. Then you need one soapy water and a sponge. Don’t use anything hard. Don’t use any hard brushes or anything like that. Sponge is perfectly fine. That will get rid of the dirt from the outside. On the inside, if you haven’t already used anything like teak oil or Danish oil or beeswax or wax on the inside to make it a wipeable surface. Then what you need to do to get rid of any dirt that’s on the timber is just a light fine sandpaper, and that will get rid of that.
